2009-2013 Expert has recently successfully completed a PhD research project funded by The University of St Andrews and The Diamond Light source the UK's national synchrotron facility. The research involved the development of new spectroscopic techniques for use within the fields of mineralogy petrology and gemmology. The research that was completed as a sabbatical in the middle of Expert's successful career in the diamond and gemstone industries. The research has led to a number of successful publications and conference presentations and establishes Expert as one of the leading experts in the industry.



Expert was the founder and CEO of the UK's largest jewellery valuation company until he completed the sale of the company to the Birmingham Assay office in 2005. He has held directorships in many companies operating within the jewellery and gemstone industry including retail, manufacturing and design and the service sectors of the jewellery industry.

Expert advised a client who was left with a considerable value of gemstones that had been used as security on a financial transaction. Expert advised on value and gave expert evidence in the proceeding to take possession of the property. He then arranged the sale of the items to a number of international buyers including facilitating all the excise issues arising. Expert was instructed by an international insurer to investigate the trading prior to and the circumstances of a robbery at a major wholesale jeweller. The conclusion was that Expert discovered a number of suspicious transaction in the period prior to the robbery and also that the insured had been in breach of a number of condition precedent of the terms of the insurance policy. The outcome saved the insurer many millions of pounds. Expert was instructed to investigate the trading and circumstances prior to a robbery at a major diamond cutter. The results of the investigation was the discovery of a number of accounting irregularities within the claim and a subsequent significant reduction in the claim Expert was instructed by an international bank to investigate a claim arising from a safety deposit loss. The investigation discovered evidence of an inflated claim that resulted in a claim reduction of 75%.Expert was instructed by a member of the Saudi Arabia Royal family to investigate the sale on an important jewel. The outcome of the investigation allowed a negotiated settlement to be achieved in the dispute.
