Expert is a Chartered Environmentalist with more than 30 years’ experience in the global water and environment sector, working for a UK Central Government department, government regulators, a water utility, lobbying charity, international professional body (as Director of Policy) and global publishers.

Expert is a Subject Matter Expert and Consultant, working in UK water and environmental policy, regulation, trade, sector development, challenges and trends and global green careers. He has recently worked as a Policy Advisor for Defra (the UK Government Department for Environment Food & Rural Affairs) and the UK regulator OFWAT, working on company insight reports and sensitive workstreams around sector performance, international trade, biosecurity, post-Brexit policy, competition, regulation, business, and the environment.

Key areas of experience:
- UK Water Industry – performance insight reports on companies, analyzing multiple public and internal reports and working with IT specialists on data visualization for Ofwat, the UK water economic regulator, market trends, future issues facing the sector.
- UK Water Regulation – expertise in multiple areas of the sector, as he has worked with the UK Water Regulator Ofwat, Thames Water, Environment Agency and a water trade body over the past 35 years. Regulation, policy and market future trends and challenges are his key areas of expertise in the water sector.
- UK Government Global Trade and Exports – working with UK Government department Defra to promote international exports of animal related products. Biosecurity issues and trade challenges. Working with new and challenging partners – Russia, Eurasia, Hong Kong, Chile.
- Global Environment Sectors – Trends and Growth areas. Significant research into the global environmental sector for his book.

• Developing sector outputs – new legislation, strategies and management plans, technical reports, policy statements, consultation responses, ministerial letters, press releases and campaign, lobbying and media materials. Well-developed skills in reviewing, summarizing and developing documents produced by Government, regulators, consultants and researchers for a technical as well as public audience. The ability to revise materials so that they are accessible to the target audience.
• Policy – development and implementation in multiple areas of the environment and business sectors. Over 30 years’ experience of policy output development including briefing materials, strategies, catchment management plans, policy statements, consultation responses, Ministerial letters, press releases and campaign, lobbying and media materials. Roles undertaken at all levels, from report writing to ‘fronting’ campaigns and representing organizations at the highest level.
• Publications, editing, copywriting and authoring – Book series editor for the academic publishers Wiley (2014 – present) and Springer Nature (until 2020), publication development, funding, budgeting, launch, design and content, printing, editor management, day to day finance, editorial boards, copywriting. He has managed, written and developed books, journals, magazines, media and promotional materials, websites, awards literature, conference outputs and e-newsletters.
• Working with multidisciplinary teams - policy and technical specialists, administrators, civil servants and others. His roles have regularly required me to develop a standpoint and to be convincing and sensitive in negotiations and discussions.
• High level representation – government working groups, House of Commons committees, ‘fronting’ campaigns and representing organizations at the highest level.
• Business, programme and project management - regulations and policies, RAID Logs, EPMO, change management, risk management, SWOT analysis, project documentation, regulation, action plans.
