Expert was an agricultural economist with the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Foreign Agricultural Service and Economic Research Service. He was also with the federal government’s Cost-of-Living Council.
One of his longest serving assignments was being a member of the USDA/U.S. Trade Representatives Technical Advisory Committee for International Trade in Animals and Animal Products. He first served on this committee when it was established by Congress in the mid-‘70s and continued to serve until he retired.
Expert continues to consult with and assists with certain of the Council’s meetings. He notes that when he joined, chicken was the third most popular meat in the United States. Along the way chicken became the most popular meat. He says the “ride is not over for chicken consumption” and expects consumers to enjoy at least 100 pounds per person at some point in the future.
