Expert Details
Toxicology (Benzene, Solvents, Metals); Medical Science and Microbiology (Causation); Environmental (Risk Assessment)
ID: 107698
Missouri, USA
Expert has done basic research on the biology of oxygen and oxygen radicals for 29 years. The work has applications for: cardiovascular ischemia-reperfusion injury and inflammatory reaction; oxygen therapy for bends and premature infants; carbon monoxide poisoning; anaerobic infections; cellular antioxidant defenses such as superoxide dismutases, catalases, and peroxidases; redox-cycling toxic mechanism of pharmaceuticals, pesticides, xenobiotics, and free radicals; and convulsions and degenerative brain disorders.
Expert has consulted for rendering plants, animal-rearing and husbandry operations, and legal nuisance complaints. He has technical
expertise in planning and conducting air analysis for odor, including hydrogen sulfide and organic compounds, and lagoon monitoring. He can provide microbiological, analytical and chemical expertise in odor analysis and odor control, including microbiological waste stabilization.
Expert is a Diplomate of the American Board of Toxicology with broad expertise in the toxicity (and cellular defense mechanisms against such toxicity) of pesticides, solvents, and pharmaceuticals, particularly those that redox-cycle to generate oxygen free radicals. The National Institutes of Environmental Health Sciences toxicology study section funds his research in this area. He has served as a peer reviewer for Superfund projects for the US Army Medical Research and Material Command, the US Department of Commerce National Institutes of Standards and Technology, the NIEHS, and the NIH. He has done research in toxicology, and has served as a consultant and expert witness for legal cases for plaintiff and defense relating to poisoning of humans and animals by various chemicals from industrial, home and environmental sources since the early 1980's.
Expert's research has been continuously funded by peer reviewed grant applications since 1968. He is Principal and Co-Investigator on basic research supported by the National Institutes of Environmental Health Sciences, National Institute of Health, the Department of Defense (Office of Naval Research), and the United States Agency for International Development. He has served as a peer reviewer for Program, Score, and Superfund projects, served as Assistant Director of a research center, and as a consultant in the preparation of research grant proposals.
Expert has performed various field and site analyses relating to environmental problems; consulted with attorneys on cases broadly in the life sciences including review of medical records for disease cause-and-effect relationships; assisted with safety review of pharmaceuticals; provided risk assessment; served as a peer reviewer for various federal agencies including NIEHS, NIH, EPA, Superfund, ATSDR, DOD, and others, including for grant applications, program projects, site visits, and Toxicology Profiles for various chemicals.
