In concert with his snack food experience Expert maintains expertise in food extrusion including pasta, pellets, expanders (cereal, snacks, etc.), and unique processes from all major suppliers. In addition he has had experience with twin screw extrusion (TSE) since 1980 and enjoys a working knowledge of all major brands.
The logical continuation of any food extrusion process is a dehydration step. Expert maintains a practical knowledge of the unit operation and can recommend existing brands and troubleshoot process problems. Knowledge of TSE has leveraged intensive research in the growing area of bio plastics. Expert has accumulated five years experience researching and implementing conversion of renewable resources (ie, cornstarch and the like) into biodegradable replacements for common petroleum-based plastic consumer products (packaging, meat trays, etc.).
Another unit operation extremely important to twin screw extrusion is the feeder. Expert's past research has concentrated on selection of the feeder (volumetric and gravimetric) for the chosen raw material and process. He has practical expertise appropriate to these areas.
The study of tribology is a necessity for the effective use of extruders. The interaction between process materials and screw/barrel metals dictates the life of the system. Expert has placed a major emphasis on the study of this field during the course of his career.
