Expert is qualified and appointed as an examiner of ski instructors in the U.K. and the U.S.A and as a coach in the U.K, and the Netherlands. Expert is a former Chairman of the English Ski Council, now Snowsport England, the governing body for English Skiers. He is one of Snowsport England’s most senior tutors, being only one of 4 people authorised to deliver its highest level courses [which give successful candidates an internationally recognised qualification]. He has, for the last 4 years delivered Snowsport England’s tutor training - both preparing course materials and delivering courses. He holds honorary life membership of Snowsport England.
As a member of the Commission for the Examination and Education of Ski Instructors Expert is part of the international expert group which reviews and sets standards for ski instructors. He is the British representative to the IVSI [the International Federation of Ski Instructors] and was the British delegation leader to the last two IVSI meetings and congresses. He is also a member of the national source group responsible for setting the standards for coaches and ski instructors and led the development of the United Kingdom Snowsports Coach Award Scheme - now UK Snowsports.
Expert has worked as a member of ASTM committee F27 and various technical subcommittees in respect of skiing safety and ski bindings. This committee and the organisation has a role in the USA which is analogous to that of B.S. [British Standards] or ISO and is responsible, inter alia for the drafting of standards for the supply of ski bindings. He has also written extensively on skiing and ski equipment over the last 15 years.
Expert is regularly employed as a consultant by various organisations including architects, retailers, ski centres and local authorities to assist in their compliance with good practice in the design and management of ski centres. As a ski journalist he is employed to research developments in ski equipment and he carries out this role for ski magazines in the U.K. and the U.S.A. Expert is a former Chairman of the English Ski Council {now
Snowsports England}, the governing body for English Skiers. He is also a member of the national source group responsible for setting the standards for coaches and ski instructors and led the development of the United Kingdom Snowsports Coach Award Scheme. He is the senior examiner for this organisation and for the last two years have had overall responsibility for the training of all tutors.
Expert is the British representative to the IVSI congress.

Wintersports related litigation is an expanding field where the legal professional frequently requires specialist advice from an expert who is not only familiar within his field, but is also familiar with the workings of the legal system. Expert's experience and qualifications place him in a unique position to advise the legal and insurance professions in respect of snowsports. As an internationally qualified instructor, examiner and coach he is able to offer guidance and assistance when the conduct of an instructor is being called into question. Over the years he has been, and remains, involved in the drafting and development of many ski instructing awards which are offered in the UK. As a member of several of ASTM’s expert committees he is directly involved in the monitoring and development of standards, practices and protocols related to wintersports and the supply of wintersports equipment. Though the introduction of the role of Single Joint Expert is changing the manner in which experts are instructed he currently receives approximately 60% of his instructions from Claimant’s solicitors. Though the majority of cases are settled before trial he has given oral evidence a number of times. In addition to working within the UK he has worked with the legal profession in jurisdictions as diverse as the Republic of Ireland and the USA. |
