He is actively leading researches in the field of controlled free-radical polymerization mediated by Reversible Activation-Fragmentation chain Transfer (RAFT) in homogenous and heterogeneous media. The uniqueness of his work lies in the combination of modern methods of controlled free-radical polymerization with nanotechnologies, which allows preparing new polymer materials and nanocomposites with tailored properties designed for demanding applications.
Typical potential applications are paper barrier coatings, materials with improved thermal stability and enhanced mechanical properties.

The preparation of water-based polymer colloidal suspensions (latices) with unusual compositions and morphologies is one of his major current centers of interest. Two typical examples are the preparation of magnetic polymer colloidal composite nanoparticles by free-radical polymerization in emulsion and in suspension, or the preparation of polymer-clay nanocomposite by free-radical polymerization in emulsion and in dispersion.
Furthermore, he has developed a new class of polymerizable surfactants, studied their self-assembly behavior in diluted aqueous media, determined their lyotropic liquid crystalline properties and phase diagrams in concentrated solutions.
One of his latest researches has successfully developed organic compounds hybrid between surfactant and reversible transfer agent (RAFT) tailored for the preparation of polymer-inorganic particle nanocomposites with controlled architectures and properties.

He is developing innovative barrier coatings for the paperboard packaging industry. Gas, vapours and moisture barrier properties are undoubtedly the most important characteristic demanded by the food packaging industry.
He is also designing new wet and dry-strength resins for the paper board and fluting industry. The related R&D projects involve industrial methods of polymer synthesis and/or polymer modification.

He has thoroughly published in the field of polymer-clay nanocomposites (PCNs). He has not only proposed innovative methods to prepare such hybrid polymers in various media, but he has also established correlations between morphology and properties of PCNs. Such efforts were carried out because a sharp understanding of relations existing between structure and properties will allow chemical engineering tailoring polymer nanocomposite material with desired properties for specific applications.

He has published in the field of ultra-low surface energy fluorinated polymer in connection with his work on establishing relationships between molecular structure and surface properties of perfluoroalkylated acrylic (co)polymers. This work involved the preparation of novel fluorinated copolymer, their structural study, and the way their self-assembly behaviour affect their surface properties.

He is a privileged consultant for a paper making company to design R&D projects for product development for niche markets. He has contributed to the success of a R&D project for autocleaning filtration membrane.He is consulting on a regular base for online technical support.
