These systems have included extremely specialized and customized single-quantity systems. They have also consisted of mass-produced modules and systems coordinated to support semiconductor photolithography and other highly demanding applications. This mass production consisted of thousands of units with uptime often exceeding 99 percent.
Expert specializes in HV power systems that employ solid-state switching and magnetic pulse compression in order to deliver rapid risetime HV pulses for gas discharge lasers and other applications. His other capabilities include line-type, magnetic, hard tube, and solid-state modulators for pulse generation.
Expert has successfully leveraged pulse transformer technology and Marx generators to obtain voltage multiplication and output voltages exceeding 1 MV. He is well-versed in SCR's, IGBT's, thyratrons, MOSFETs, vacuum tubes, spark gaps, ignitrons, and other HV switching technologies.
Expert is capable of utilizing risetime sharpening techniques as well as pulse forming and shaping in order to achieve application-specific pulse parameters. He is keenly experienced with a very wide variety of HV charging technologies. These technologies includes pulse charging, resonant charging, high-frequency switching power supply systems, and phase control.
Expert can develop high-voltage and pulsed power diagnostics, as well as control, interlock, and interface electronics. He is capable of customizing system mechanical packaging and design, optimized for minimum weight and size specifications, via optimization of system electrical insulation design.
His key expertise includes printed circuit board design and layout for high-voltage and power applications. Expert is highly familiar with QuickField FEA software, including a variety of applications: (i) to model electric fields for high-voltage component and insulation design; and (ii) electronics cooling and thermal modeling system design -- for instance, forced liquid and/or air.
Expert led the successful third-party -- UL and TUV -- certification of multiple divergent module designs accounting for Safety Requirements for Electrical Equipment for Measurement, Control, and Laboratory Use," or EN61010. He is experienced in product development -- spanning from prototype design through volume manufacturing. This wide spectrum of expertise encompasses parts procurement; vendor selection and qualification; test procedures and validation; staffing and training for manufacturing; field support; failure analysis; and outsourcing. His expertise throughout this process also includes full documentation, i.e., parts specification, drawings, ECO's, bills of material, and other processes. As an SME in this field, Expert has also worked very closely with internal IP staff in order to file patent applications and responses.
Expert designed and delivered a custom pulse generator system to support electo-optic sensor development at Intevac Inc.Expert developed a 1 kV Pulsed Power Supply for ITT Systems (now Exelis) to support their government support contract. Three of these modules were delivered in the initial contract in 2009 and these continue to operate at the end customer facility. Expert's work replaced another design that was far less reliable.Expert consulted for Current Audio LLC to address and rectify issues with their surge protection device PCB layout and failure during UL testing.Expert developed a customized pulse generator for Magnetics Inc. in order to test magnetic cores under fast pulse magnetization conditions and collect and analyze BH loop data.
