A project without a good planning is as ship without compass on a dark night in the middle of the ocean. There is not sense of direction and of course it will go nowhere.
His expertise in planning dates back to 1980 when he did his MSc at UMIST. At that time, precedence diagram and computers were an incipient mix. Today computers' dramatic increase in processing power allows very sophisticated planning tools such as Primavera and MS Project. Harnessing this power and using it to its fulliest is very important and this is his area of knowledge and expertise. After 28 years in capital projects and hand on experience with major projects, Expert has the experience to provide indepth assistance with all aspects of project and resource planning.
The scope of work or Statement of work (SOW) is the most important document to be produced while implementing a project. In it, the project timeline, standards, specs. and drawing safety, are set. The SOW is the base document to develop the WBS, which will be the foundation stone for the planning, reviewing and assuring that the SOW is complete. It is important to have only what is needed and define deliverables and objectives. This is fundamental to achieve project objectives.
A proper assessing of risk areas and contingency plan to avoid or minimize risk is a FEL area. This brings a large potential savings on time and costs. Risk management considers the possibilitiy of events that could delay project execution. Expert brings his 28 years of experience to the table when helping with risk management.
As part of front end loading, a Constructability exercise must be carried out by a team of experts generally assigned by the client or provided by the consultant. Key areas such as location, soil investigation, weather factors(extreme cold, heat), resources availability, construction method, expertise needed, materials used and risk areas all need to be considered before the actual construction start. Constructability is key to achiving a safe project on time and within budget. Expert has years of experience handling constructability issues.
