Expert in functional product development includes product reliability and intelligent materials selection. He has worked directly or managed teams of new product development on advanced sensor development and the integration for automotive, steelmaking, aqueous systems, biological fluids. The measurements include oxygen, glucose, dopamine, pH, ORP, conductivity, turbidity, etc. He has also worked on developing a solid-state CO sensor, a piezoelectric accelerometer, a ferroelectric actuator, and chemical and electrochemical processes for cleaning, electroplating, and organic coating. Recent accomplishment in detection of sub-ppb level measurement of metals in water.
Expert also has extensive experience in structural materials (alloy design, composite design heat treatment, surface treatment, etc.) and electronic/ optical materials (electronic and ionic conductivity engineering, color design). His work was always aimed at improving materials' performance through alloying, forming composite (metal-metal, metal-ceramic, etc.), design change and making appropriate surface treatments. He has developed near-net-shape forming process for various materials systems such as PZT, PMN, carbides, nitrides, metallic alloys, etc., through slip casting, tape casting, extrusion, multilayer lamination, injection molding, etc.
Expert has also developed and refined metal cleaning and heavy metal removal processes pertaining to environmental and health concerns. He has knowledge of developing materials for chemical catalysis and electrocatalysis.
The expert has experience developing various physical, electrochemical, electrical, optoelectric, and electro-optic devices. He has worked on gaseous oxygen sensors, pH sensors, vibration sensors, heterojunction gas sensors, temperature sensors, dissolved oxygen sensors, mass sensors, chloride ion sensors, corrosion sensors, and others.
Expert has hands-on expertise in electron microscopy (SEM, TEM, EELS, EDS, EBS), core=level, valence-level and vibration spectroscopic techniques such as XANES, EXAFS, FTIR, RAMAN. X-ray absorption spectroscopy for in situ determination of materials characteristics as a process is occurring (catalysis development, a coating process, aqueous and gaseous corrosion processes, or electrolysis). He has experience developing custom test cells and detectors for this purpose.
Expert has worked to understand the attributes of coating systems (thickness, composition, structure, electrical properties, adhesion, etc.) to provide better protection and longer-lasting products. His detailed understanding helps him fine-tune coating formulas and processes. He learns a great deal from failed coatings (delamination, blister, corrosion, etc.) and then works to improve existing coating systems and coating application processes. His experience spans optical coatings to underground pipeline coatings.
Additionally, many of Expert's services have involved failure analysis. He has extensive experience in analyzing failed fasteners, shafts, pumps, wheels, gears, coatings, reactor vessels, etc., made of materials such as steel, titanium, brass, engineering plastics, organic coatings, hard coatings (carbides and nitrides), and others. He has developed particular expertise in identifying the cause of failure that is associated with mechanical and electrochemical/environmental factors and further providing the engineering solutions.
Expert's direct, day-to-day experience includes management of teams of RTOS-based firmware development in embedded systems; supply chain and cost optimization; DOE and statistical analysis (Minitab); model-based design (Simulink); open / disruptive innovation.
Numerous consuting projects successfully completed in the industries of petrochemical, automotive, defense, aerospace, consumer products and healthcare.
