He has worked on high-temperature resistant aromatic and heteroaromatic polymers, including thermoset polyimides, BMIs, cyanate esters, and other high-temprature polymers. He has designed a series of high-temperature poly(arylene ethers) for the semiconductor manufacturers to be used as interlayer low-k dielectric materials, and led the product development project from concept design to through R&D and scale-up to commercialization. In addition, he has further built a second-generation dielectric system with stronger inherent mechanical properties and higher Tg based on a combination of perphenylated adamantanes and Diel-Alder chemistry.

He began his professional career in the aerospace industry and has comtributed to the development of thermoset polyimides as the resin materials for high temperature carbon fiber reinforced composites. He gained his expertise in solvent and hot-melt prepregging and contributed to improving processibility of thermoset polyimide systems.

He is expert in physical and chemical characterization of polymers and composite materials, adhesion failures, and prepregging defects. He is expert in interpreting thermal analytical results (DSC, TGA, DMA) and other analytical characterization techniques including NMR, FTIR, MS, GCMS, and HPLC. Although not a trained mechanical engineer, he has many years of working knowledge in thermomechanical testing, ASTM instron testing methods, and failure inspection of composite test specimens.

During the years with the semiconductor industry, he has developed a second generation high temperature thermoset aromatic system for applications as low-k dielectric interlayer materials based on the chemistry of highly-phenylated adamantanes and Diels Alder reaction of tetracyclone and phenylacetylene. He also worked on the synthesis of highly phenylated terphenyl systems based on Diels-Alder reactions of the appropriate structures.

He has more than 2 decades' experience in new product development of high-performance polymers for applications in harsh environmental conditions and high temeprature regimes. Polymer systems included the cyanate esters, bismaleimides, thermoset polyimides, polyarylene ethers, polyphenylenes, and polybenzimidazoles and polybenzoxazoles.

His experience with high temperature adhesives was mainly with thermosetting polyimides for aerospace structural applications.

He has worked on high temperature composites for high speed aircraft applications, and was mainly in thermoset polyimides and their isoimide modifications.

His work on polyimides and polyarylene ethers are AB-type homopolymers

He has worked on organic coatings with dielectric properties for the aerospace and semiconductor industries, where the coatings in the latter are thin films. The polymer types are mainly polyimides, epoxies, and poly(arylene ethers). A few of these developmental programs turned into practical systems for coating select classified structures (aerospace industry) and commercializing one of the world's earliest organic low-k dielectric thin films.

Polyamic acid is the more processible form of polyimide. Many solvent prepregs used for fabricating polyimide composites are the polyamic acid intermediates. In addition, he also studied and applied the polyisoimide alternative to circumvent the outgassing problems in processing polyimide through the amic acid stage.

He has more than 20 years of experience working with the synthesis, characterization, and applications of different types of polymer systems for both the aerospace ans semiconductor industries.

He has over 20 years of expertise in polymer chemistry, including design, synthesis, characterization, and sturcture-property relationship studies.

He has extensive experience in polymer modification by monomer substitution, reactions on polymers, curative applications as in the case of epoxy chemistry.

He has extensive synthetic expertise in polyimides, monomer design, nucleophilic aromatic substitution, Diels-Alder synthesis.
