Polymer Chemistry and Organic Chemistry
ID: 733614

He has demonstrated the ability to lead large technical teams to successful endpoints on numerous occasions. He has a well-demonstrated broad technical skill base in polymer synthesis, processing, and characterization techniques, and he has demonstrated the flexibility to effectively use this skill base to architecturally design polymers in a number of areas to meet a wide variety of needs. The breadth of his work spans the areas of fiber formation, industrial polymers, pharmaceutically active polymers, medically relevant polymers, encapsulation and delivery, and polymeric coatings. For example, he created new liquid crystalline polyesters for various fiber applications. Expert then moved into pharmaceutical applications and discovered a new hydrogel bile acid sequestrant used to lower cholesterol. Again, he moved to work involved with a packaging graphics business and led a large technical team to the successful discovery and development of a new polymeric coating material to replace the metal cladding on printing cylinders.
The aforementioned work has afforded him a very broad background in a number of different polymer families. It has also allowed him to develop a deep understanding of polymer structure-property relationships designed to deliver specific properties for a number of end-use applications.
Expert obtained a Ph.D. degree in organic chemistry from the University of Illinois. During this time he was involved with the synthesis and characterization of new and unusual sulfurane species using aromatic lithiation techniques, which he developed. Upon working in industry primarily doing polymer synthesis and characterization, He used his knowledge of organic chemistry to synthesize, purify, and characterize new monomers used in the production of novel polymeric species.
