Expert has a 40-year history of product development efforts including material selection, process development to mate with the material, functional package development, product design to accomplish both protection, function, and promotion. The development history has included lightweighting and redesign for better functionality. Close cooperation with the customers, consumer panel testing, and marketing, sales, manufacturing, and distribution has driven the product development projects.
Innovations such as child proof closure/bottle structures, plastic food cans, retortable food cans and trays, incorporation of recycled material in personal care products, and lightweight plastic beverage bottles are exemplary.
Expert's package development expertise has embraced all aspects from design, to material selection, to process development, to downstream equipment integration, to customer in-plant cooperation.
Expert's leadership ability for new product development management has led him through several levels of management from manager to director to vice president within several major packaging companies. Regardless of the level, he interacts with personnel on a personal hands-on basis, encouraging, developing, synergizing, and leading to create new products in an efficient, effective, and energetic manner.
His fundamental training in Polymer Science and Engineering has enabled him over the years to be able to select packaging materials that fit the application in a way that is both cost effective and appropriate for the product and the environmental considerations.
He was part of a team (technical part) that 'saved' plastic packaging in Wisconsin from being banned during the early '90's draconian recycling legislation.
He has been responsible for purchase and development of new processes and equipment for packaging to expand the use of plastic packaging into markets not previously penetrated. Most notable was the seven-layer asymmetrical coextrusion blow molder, a powder metallurgical process for making plastic food cans, and a sanitary assembly machine for attaching floats to straws for PopStraws.
He has led groups for many of the major packaging companies that have selected, developed, tested, and created unique plastic packaging material regimes for new products and product line extensions.
He worked with the client to develop new plastic pallet formulation and worked on the floor to mold, inspect, test, and qualify the new product technology. He worked with the client to develop packaging structures for Lithium battery components, designed structures, found converters, gained testing samples, and aided in specification preparation. He worked with the client to maximize bottle design, QC procedures, and testing protocol, and material selection for conversion from PVC to PET bottles.
