He has researched extensively on resistance of common beans to anthracnose fungus. He is an author and reviewer of peer refereed journals. He also has extensive experience acquired through running a plant disease clinic to carry out plant disease diagnosis and advise farmers and industry on plant disease control measures based on findings. He has acquired knowledge on many crop diseases through studies, teaching, research and running a plant disease clinic. He is also experienced in single spore isolation technique of anthracnose fungus, culturing and production of inocula for resistance screening of bean cultivars. He is skilled in isolation of root knot nematodes by extraction from infected roots of hosts and the cutting of perineal patterns to determine the species; He also came up with methods of screening for disease resistance using ethylene bio-synthesis and peroxidase as indicators. Expert has also carried out research studies on root knot nematodes and bacterial canker of tomato.
Expert has taught many plant pathology courses to both undergraduate and graduate classes. He has also taught mycology, bacteriology, nematology and plant virology. He has also supervised graduate students on various areas of plant pathology where he has worked with them in some of the following areas: 1.The responses of cowpea cultivars to root knot nematodes and the nematodes response to different plant extracts. 2. Integrated management of Tomato Spotted Wilt disease in cucumber. 3. Use of botanical (Brassica sp) to control Fusarium and Root Knot nematodes. 3. Studies on virus resistance in transgenic sweet potato expressing the coat protein gene of Sweet Potato Mottle Virus. 4. Transmission of vectors of Barley Yellow Dwarf Virus in wheat and Barley.
