Arc welding is one of the most widely used metal joining technique. On a commercial scale, this is of vital importance and many of the metals are better arc welded to yield a strong joint. But, this also means there is a change in the mechanical properties from that of the parent metal.

The weld electrodes or the filler materials along with the process parameters should be chosen in a way that the weld has better properties compared to the parent material. Variety of welding techniques could be used. The most crudest and simplest of the all is the SMAW. On a large scale GMAW would be preferred. The weld pool shape and the microstructure affect how the joint is going to perform under different kinds of loading conditions (fatigue or creep etc). Power plant steels specifically are prone to precipitate dissolution that could cause problems in the creep life. On the other hand, subzero operations require tough welds and the microstructure has to be appropriately controlled.

His expertise in this area would contribute to selection of filler material of tailor designed composition designed for a particular purpose.

Annealing can be of different types. Either it could be done for tempering or a hard martensitic microstructure or for stress relieving or for homogenizing. Depending upon the temperature and time of annealing the mechanical properties get affected. An optimum selection of the heat treatment parameters is important in this case. Microstructurally presence of precipitates or any deformation could affect the annealing properties by influencing the recrystallization tendencies.

Internet is becoming an imperative tool for communication. Expert has been related to this fascinating web for 10 years and has been hosting web pages for some time. Has maintained web servers (Apache) and email servers (Dovecot -pop or imap and senmail based). Has built clusters hands on using a combination of desktop computers to obtain about 12 GFlops computing power.

This is available on internet for open access and job submission. He has hosted pages that use PHP as SSI. Web based email and greeting pages have been developed by expert as a hobby.

He would appreciate users who have problems with their html, php, javascript, email and web servers based on Linux to contact Expert. However, expert can provide you with solutions virtually on any platform as he has good grasp on the concepts which do not vary with platforms.

Structural Ferro-alloys is his cup of tea. Expert has worked on steels of high-strength and toughness applications, high-temperature creep (power plant steels). Can give you information on the phases that could form during a particular processing of steel and also suggest what alloy would best suit your need.

Creep in steels would be the area where he can help. He has done much research on how various precipitates help in reducing creep in power-plant steels where the alloy is expected to survive for 30 years at 600 C, where creep is the very much operative.
