The service involves both acute and chronic pain management. The service accepts referrals from General Practitioners and other specialists of patients with chronic pain problems. As she works at a tertiary referral centre her patients often have complex and long-standing chronic pain problems e.g. chronic back pain, post-whiplash injury pain, headaches, peripheral nerve problems, post-amputation pain, cancer pain, joint pains, complex regional pain syndrome, post-surgical pain, post-traumatic pain, brachial plexus pain and various musculoskeletal pains. Within her service, drugs, nerve blocks, physical techniques and psychological interventions are used to manage pain. She is experienced in most interventional pain management e.g. spinal drug delivery and spinal cord stimulation; She is also interested in pain of trauma, surgery and pain of nervous system origin e.g. complex regional pain syndrome and its management. She has a Pain Management Programme. She has developed special expertise in cancer pain management, particularly with regard to intrathecal drug delivery. She is experienced in acupuncture and holds the Diploma of the British Medical Acupuncture Society. She regularly lectures at national and international meetings on this topic.
