Expert received a degree in electrical engineering from M.I.T. and his medical doctorate from the University of California, San Francisco. He completed a post-doctoral research fellowship at Massachusetts Eye & Ear Infirmary, a general surgery internship at the University of California, Irvine, and then came to New York City to train in otolaryngology-head and neck surgery at New York-Presbyterian, where he completed his residency in otolaryngology-head and neck surgery in 2004.
