Organic Chemistry, Chromatography, Spectroscopy, Pesticide Analysis, Sugar Cane and Editing
ID: 730003
Mauritius
Expert. Expert has a very good knowledge in chromatographic and spectroscopic techniques. He has good experience in the handling of IR, GC, GC-MS, HPLC, NMR and UV instruments. He supervised undergraduate laboratory courses at the University of British Columbia, Canada. While serving as a former member of the Chemicals Standards Committee of the Mauritius Standards Bureau, he gave suggestions to improve test methods.
At the Mauritius Sugar Industry Research Institute, Expert. Expert converted bagasse into bioplastics (biodegradable polymers) and ethanol by saccharification (hydrolysis of cellulose and hemicellulose into glucose, xylose and other monosaccharides) and fermentation. He studied the effects of weather on the turbidity of sugar cane juice/syrup, and color and filterability of raw sugars. He developed multi-residue methods to analyze over 30 pesticide residues in sugars. He also provided technical support to sugar factories and a rum manufacturer whenever needed.
