With his extensive background in NDT and inspection, flaw detection is a natural and related attribute to this expert. He is familiar with all the major flaws, how they are caused, how to prevent them, how to identify them, and how they are related to product failure. He also wrote the chapter in the American Society for Metals MEI Home Study Program entitled "Interpretation and Classification of Indications."
Expert has over 50 years of applied uses of penetrant testing (PT), both visible and fluorescent. He is thoroughly familiar with the variables and most cost-effective uses, and has settled many disputes involving interpretation and proper uses of this method. He is also certified Level III in PT.
Expert has extensive in virtually all aspects of magnetic particle testing, including portable and fixed equipment systems, visible/fluorescent, interpretation of results, and how to use this method in the most cost-effective manner. He is also certified Level III in MT.
Being active in ASME, ASTM, AWS, and ASNT, he has maintained a current working knowledge of NDT codes and standards. He is frequently called upon to provide advice and assist in the interpretation of applicable codes and specifications.
With 50+ years of progressive experience in radiography, Expert has become a widely known and accepted source of expertise in this area. During this time, he has frequently been called upon to settle disputes regarding the interpretation of radiographs, sometimes involving litigation. He and another expert (pioneer) wrote the booklet, "Radiographic Interpretation." He is also a certified Level III in RT.
For over 50 years, Expert has been involved with virtually all aspects of ultrasonic testing, including contact, immersion, thickness testing, angle beam inspection of welds, tubing and pipe, corrosion detection, automated systems and imaging, for a wide range of materials and applications. He has settled disputes regarding interpretations as an independent third party. He is also certified Level III in UT.
Expert has expertise in a wide range of applications, including materials sorting, conductivity measurements, permeability variations, part sorting based on size, heat treat condition, and alloy variation. He is also proficient in coating and film thickness measurements, and tubing inspection (condenser, air conditioning, steam generator).
Expert has been active in this area since the early 1960s, and has been a strong advocate and leader in the pursuit of centralized certification for NDT personnel, both nationally and internationally.
Visual testing (VT), the world's oldest NDT, is becoming very sophisticated. He has had a long and varied exposure to visual testing of welds and other products using conventional methods, as well as fiber optic boroscopes, miniature television cameras, imaging chips, and others. On many occasions, he has proven that a good visual inspection program can result in extensive cost savings. He is also certified Level III in VT.
Involved with the Radiographic Testing disputes on Alaska Pipeline. Called upon to provide his evaluation of a number of radiographs that were falsified.Provided ongoing on-call consulting services to USBI at the Kennedy Space Center and assisted in the resolution of various inspection problems.Worked as an on-call consultant to the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) regarding disputes dealing with various certificating of ships and related matters.Provided ongoing NDT consulting services to various State Transpotation Departments dealing with structures and structural members.Currently providing consulting services to various U.S. Government groups dealing with inspection and Nondestructive Testing.
