COMPUTER-AIDED ALTERNATING CURRENT (AC) GENERATOR DESIGN; SYNCHRONOUS GENERATORS. Expert has worked on computer-aided design of brushless synchronous generators for the past 20 years. The AC generators he designs are of both low and high voltage, low and high R.P.M. (60 and 400 Hz), and range from 1KW to 5000KW.
COMPUTER-AIDED SYNCHRONOUS AND INDUCTION MOTOR DESIGN; THREE-PHASE INDUCTION MOTOR. Expert has also been very involved in the computer design of both synchronous and induction motors, ranging from FH.P. to 1000 H.P. In the case of induction motors, his work has included both 3-phase and 1-phase designs. The 1-phase induction designs have been split-phase resistance and capacitor start types.
ELECTRIC MOTOR PRODUCT DESIGN AND DEVELOPMENT; ELECTRIC MOTOR PROTOTYPING. Expert has made a specialty of contracting with companies, such as Rockwell International, Ford Motor Company, General Electric, Williams International, and Maxtor Corporation, for complete design, development, and prototype building using a small, but highly experienced network of venders, including electronic designers, machine shops, and laser cutting shops.
SWITCHED RELUCTANCE ELECTRIC MOTOR. Expert has acquired significant software for computer designing switched reluctance motors. He has successfully designed, built, and tested several small FHP switched reluctance motors.
Expert has enlarged his specialty area to include turnkey design and development of systems incorporating robotics, actuators, and motor-driven actuators. His experience in the design and development of a wide variety of brushless DC motors integrates well with this broader effort.
Expert utilizes AutoCAD and SolidWorks in all of his electric machine design drawings and usually supply copies to his clients by attaching to e-mail or by sending copies on a thumb drive. He has also utilized both commercially available design modeling software and computer design software that he has written and utilized over the years.
Expert has spent considerable time and effort in the last five years designing and developing a highly unique disk drive motor with patent pending intended for use on the next generations of high density, high speed disk drives.
Recently, Expert has undertaken to design, develop, and prototype larger machines of a robotic nature that incorporate electric motor actuation or other electric control and input. The most recent was a large robotic machine for the U.S. Post Office to be used to apply cardboard sleeves over trays of letter mail.
This category relates to work that Expert has done with the design and development of very high speed brushless DC motors up to 50,000 RPM and up to 5.0 HP. One of the applications was a very high speed electrically-driven air conditioning compressor to operate in automobiles which also incorporated refrigerant cooling of the motor itself.
Many of the smaller generators that Expert has designed and developed recently utilize permanent magnets of various types and grades as the source of the magnetic field. Some of the designs have been for military engine-driven generators, and some have been for hybrid alternators using both magnet produced field and wound field components. Currently, he is working on a PM generator concept that will be regulate by means of very low power with very small conventional regulators, in contrast to using series electronic voltage regulation.
