She was a member of the National Academy of Sciences Food and Nutrition Board Panel to develop new recommendations for requirements for calcium and related minerals. She is past-president of American Society for Nutritional Sciences and is on the Board of Trustees of the International Life Sciences Institute. She serves on the following editorial boards: AJCN, Nutritiongate, Nutrition Research Reviews, CRC Series in Contemporary Food Science, and the Journal of Nutrition Biochemistry. She has held many positions in IFT and ASNS. In addition, she was appointed to the Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee for 2003-2004. |

For her contributions in teaching, Expert was awarded Employer's Outstanding Teaching Award. In 1993, she was honored with the Employer Health Promotion Award for Women, and in 1997, she received the Institute of Food Technologists Babcock Hart Award. In April 2003, she received the USDA A.O. Atwater Lectureship Award at the annual Experimental Biology meeting. Her other awards include: Michigan State University, G. Malcolm Trout Lecturer (2002); Distinguished Professor of Foods and Nutrition (2000); Lydia Roberts Memorial Lecturer (2000); Julius Bauermann Lectureship Award, Philadelphia Section Institute of Food Technologists (1999); inducted into Purdue Teaching Academy (1997); Distinguished Alumna, Florida State University (1997); Outstanding Paper Award from the Vitamins and Mineral Research Interest Section, American Society for Nutritional Sciences (1997); and, Elected Fellow of the Institute of Food Technologists (1996). |
