SATELLITE COMMUNICATIONS; TELEMETRY; SPACE COMMUNICATION LINK. Expert has extensive experience in research and development of space communication systems. This has involved the design of ground stations, satellite and spacecraft systems, and satellite networks. He currently conducts research in propagation, receiver and transmitter systems, and modulation techniques for space communications. He has been involved with several NASA missions including Pioneer Venus, Magellan, and ACTS (Advanced Communication Technology Satellite).
ELECTRIC WAVE; RADIO WAVE; ELECTROMAGNETIC RADIATION ENERGY. Expert is currently Chair of the Electromagnetic Technical Group in the School of Electrical Engineering at Georgia Tech. His interests in this area focus on EM wave propagation at radio wavelengths, microwave, and millimeter waves.
MICROWAVE COMMUNICATION; MICROWAVE RADIO FREQUENCY; MICROWAVE SIGNAL. Expert has worked directly in the design, construction, and evaluation of microwave communications systems including receivers, antennas, transmitters, and signal processors.
REMOTE SENSING; SPECTROSCOPY. Expert has developed instruments for remotely sensing atmospheric and sub-surface constituents employing microwave and millimeter wave spectroscopic techniques. He has conducted laboratory microwave and millimeter wave spectroscopic measurements.
SPECTRUM RANGE; FREQUENCY SPECTRUM; MILLIMETER WAVE. Expert is currently studying the effects of near-earth spaceborne transmitters on the ability to measure deep space signals. He maintains a database of all earth-orbiting and deep space spacecraft. He is familiar with current frequency allocations in the radio, microwave, and millimeter wave ranges.
ATMOSPHERE; COSMIC NOISE. Expert is involved with the NASA Planetary Atmospheres Program and thus has experience with the composition and structure of all planetary and satellite atmospheres (including earth's) with special interest in their microwave and millimeter wave properties. His interest in planetary radio astronomy has also required understanding of the nature of cosmic noise.
