Mechanical Services Design; Energy Analysis in Commercial, Education, Healthcare & Industrial sector

ID: 729872
Ireland
As well as her industrial design background, she has completed many successful mechanical services designs for the education, commercial and healthcare sectors. These include heating, plumbing, ventilation, soils & wastes, gas supply and minor architectural upgrades. Feasibility energy studies have formed part of many of these designs and she has assisted architectural design team associates with their strategies for design of low carbon buildings. She considers an understanding of the user's requirements to be a key aspect of her successful design, particularly when proposing energy management interfaces.
Project management of warehouse conversion into Centre of Excellence facility containing laboratories, a test kitchen and tasting facility, office accommodation and training rooms (Value - £1.1M).Detailed design assistance and site support for River Rock mineral water distribution system including responsibility for calculation of flow-rates, design of process headers, pump selection and control valve specification (Value - €500k).The existing complex incorporated a listed 19th century building, a 1970s convent and three-storey nursing home, outhouses, converted stables, a 1980s extension and a recent day room extension. The proposed scheme required a phased construction / evacuation / demolition process in seven phases and the priority was to maintain services to the sections of the site which would be occupied by elderly patients and members of the religious order while other parts were demolished. The completed design incorporated a 350kW biomass boiler (selected following an energy feasibility study), integrated Buiding Management System and general services to meet the requirements of HIQA registration (Value - €7M).SHSST Energy Studies & Reports:
She carried out energy studies and reports for 4 no. hospital complexes in the Armagh & Down Health & Social Services Trust. Her responsibilities included: Initial survey of hospital buildings; Consultation with Estates engineers to highlight main issues with existing mechanical installations and possible solutions; Budget analysis of fuel and generation options including capital costs, running costs, payback periods and carbon emissions over ten year period; Reporting of all options to clients with recommendations for implementation.
