Expert is a recognized expert and Certified Manufacturing Engineer (Expert) in the field of machine vision. He has given numerous presentations and papers to various professional societies and published articles on the technical and application aspects of machine vision. He has been instrumental in the introduction and successful application of vision technology at both Procter & Gamble and RJR Nabisco. Today, both companies have over 200 installed vision systems in manufacturing. He participated in the definition of several commercially available vision systems. Expert also holds five US and applications for three foreign patents and has been active in the definition of several commercially available vision systems. Expert has access to an in-depth video course, "Success with Machine Vision." The video contains six hours of studio-quality training on all aspects of vision system design considerations, specifications, and applications in numerous industries. The video includes a 247-page manual and 18-page glossary.

Since 1975, a major focus of Expert's career has been the application of pattern recognition, imaging, and sensing technology, from the research and development lab to the factory floor. He established and managed image processing labs, machine vision, measurement, and control automation groups. Additionally, Expert is familiar with image processing techniques used to improve the visibility of image detail and features.

Expert has determined image features by applying feature detectors to distinguish or segment them from the background.

Using a borescope, Expert has inspected pipes, engines, rifle barrels, and other locations that are difficult to access.

Having a broad understanding of machine vision, Expert's knowledge extends to ambient light, which is present in the environment of the imaging front end of a vision system and generated from outside sources.

During his career, Expert has designed and developed a variety of non-contact sensing systems to measure a wide range of physical phenomena for inspection and process control, including IR temperature measurement, spectroscopy, color, and laser systems.

Expert has consulted with numerous health care, consumer products, and pharmaceutical companies concerning label and package verification. He has evaluated the use of OCR, OCV, ICR, 1-D, and 2-D barcode technologies, and knows manufacturers and integrators of this equipment.

Expert is knowledgeable about the application of 3-D measurement technologies, including triangulation (point, line, and area), moire fringe analysis, interferometry, stereometrics, LIDAR, structured light, and 3-D profilometry.

Expert has hands-on experience in many manufacturing industries. He has developed and designed machines, new processes, and complete plants, and is expert at leading multi-company, state-of-the-art development efforts, plus integrating inspection systems with material handling on both new and existing production machinery.

Expert is knowledgeable of all manufacturers of OCR and OCV equipment used in high speed manufacturing. He has an understanding of the techniques used, strengths and weaknesses of each, and effectiveness for character reading and verification.

Expert worked with machine-readable package and case codes before development of the bar code. His engineering and consulting activities include designs with many types of bar code systems as they evolved over the years, including in-depth analysis of imaging/scanning and control strategies, hardware and software design, laser diode illumination, return signal filtration, optics, and analysis and bar code decode algorithms, to include both 1D and 2D symbologies.
