Expert is an engineer who has been involved in a variety of projects within the building services discipline. Expert is a licensed BREEAM assessor, LEED AP and a CIBSE Low Carbon Consultant with extensive experience in the thermal modelling of buildings and the use of renewable energy sources. Expert has worked on a wide range of new build, refurbishment and speculative development projects including offices, housing, schools, and hospital and leisure schemes. Expert has worked in offices based onsite in London, and in Edinburgh, and Glasgow, and has worked closely with others as part of the design process, including other engineers, architects and technical specialists.
Recently, Expert has taken a central role in the delivery of a large mental health unit project. Tasks include energy, daylight modelling calculations and the preparation of renewable energy feasibility studies. Expert is particularly interested in how renewable energy systems are integrated into mechanical services design and how all system components included in a proposed development, operate and interact during commissioning and operation. Expert has detailed experience of modelling and testing passive solar architectural measures and energy conservation measures using thermodynamic modelling software. He has undertaken a number of modelling projects to test the use of natural ventilation in schools, offices and hospitals to reduce primary energy consumption whilst maintaining comfort levels and avoiding overheating. Expert has a very thorough and practical approach to sustainable engineering design and construction and has a good working knowledge of how renewable energy systems such as biomass, CHP and solar systems work in practice and how sustainable engineering and passive architectural design and construction strategies can be implemented during the design and construction process. Through these projects he has developed skills in dealing directly with clients, contractors and other members of the design and construction team. Expert is working towards his final year to chartered engineer status with CIBSE.
Expert works closely with the Sustainability Group Leader in the preparation of renewable energy strategy documents, sustainability statements, energy strategy documents and BREEAM reports, all of which have to be submitted to the Local Planning Authority in the UK before a development can obtain planning permission.

National Indoor Sports Arena & Velodrome. This is the largest new build venue for the 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games. The building contains a multipurpose indoor sports arena, velodrome and community sports hall. The facility will be used by both elite athletes and also the general community. The building will also include office space for the national sports federations, a gym spa and all support functions for the operation of an international sporting event.

Expert's role on the project included the production of the Stage D Design Report. He also performed dynamic simulation for daylighting and carbon emission calculations. For his secondment to Employer Building Physics department, he used this project to develop his skills on CFD analysis. He
helped to develop a natural ventilation strategy for the project. The main consideration for this study was to maintain comfort for the spectators whilst ensuring minimal air movement on the rack. Acharacle Primary School. The project was for the new build of a primary school in the western highlands of Scotland. The project brief was to provide an exemplar sustainable school.

His role on the project was to perform daylight simulation and comfort study at Stage C and D of the design and verify data on site after completion of the project. Modernisation of Chichester College Campus. Chichester College is 36000m² campus for more than 1000 students. Expert was the mechanical services project engineer for the project. His main role was to prepare the design for the Stage D report.

The tasks I undertook included daylight analysis and thermal comfort studies. I helped to develop the building envelope by advising on glazing types and proposing shading strategies. I developed series drawings to ensure that the services and natural ventilation chimneys were fully coordinated with the structural design. Dumfries and Galloway Acute Mental Health Unit. A new build Acute Mental Health Unit to replace the existing Victorian Facility. The new building will utilise passive techniques for ventilation and lighting. Expert has worked on the project from the initial competition phase through to the production of the complete design package. The project will achieve a BREEAM rating of excellent. It is about to enter the construction phase. His role on the project is as the lead mechanical services engineer from bidding, concept stage to construction stage. Highland Archive Centre, Inverness, Scotland. This is a new archive building on a Greenfield site for Highland Council. The building will also contain the council's registrar offices and ceremony suite.

Expert's role on the project was to perform analysis and simulation for natural ventilation, thermal comfort (PPD) and daylight.
