When engaged in issues or in crisis it is important that your communications are well grounded in facts and your actions are ethical and above reproach. This includes being proactive, not defensive. In a crisis situation it is critical to communicate quickly and make certain that it your message is honest, concise and consistent whether the audience is internal or external. Expert boils down his ethical approach to a simple phrase, “If you can’t explain it to your mother, it may not be a good idea.

A key piece of issue management and crisis communications is knowing not only about your competitor but understanding what your competitor can know about you. That understanding can prepare you to respond to misleading attacks that are most commonly found in political elections. Knowing what your competitor is up to is important, but no more important than being prepared to rebut information taken out of context and used against you as a competitive weapon. Expert has broad experience with countering competitors trying to seek an advantage through the manipulation of information.

To avoid a crisis through issue management you need to have strong teams that communicate effectively. The first step to avoiding a crisis is identifying issues that can develop into a crisis. The second step is having the right team to close the gaps through which a crisis may occur. The third step is having a trained team in place and up to speed that can manage information in the face of a variety of crisis situations that may occur. Expert’s corporate experience in a multi-business enterprise makes him of great value to you in helping manage your issues to avoid or quickly resolve an emergency or crisis.
