AIR QUALITY ASSESSMENT; IAQ. Expert has performed air quality sampling and evaluation in both environmental and industrial settings. His ability to collect valid samples has been enhanced by having performed the laboratory analyses during the early part of his career. Quality control is a major emphasis in the industrial hygiene laboratory courses he taught. Results are related to health risks through standards and toxicological data. He has been an expert witness for cases involving the evaluation of employee exposures to hazardous chemicals.
VENTILATION; INDUSTRIAL HYGIENE VENTILATION. Expert has incorporated his research on the effectiveness of ventilation systems to control chemical contaminants in a room into both his consulting recommendations and the course he taught on industrial hygiene (IH) ventilation and noise control. While he does not design ventilation systems, per se, he has assisted clients evaluate their systems, both pre- and post-installation. He also has been an expert witness for cases involving the evaluation of ventilation systems.
NOISE. While he taught both sound level evaluation and noise control, Expert's consulting has been primarily in noise evaluation. He has reduced clients' risk of employee hearing loss through exposure measurement, hearing conservation program review, and worker compensation claim evaluation. He also has been an expert witness for cases involving the evaluation of environmental noise.
MATERIAL SAFETY DATA SHEETS. Expert has written MSDSs for products of several companies. In addition, he has advised companies on the changes in the DOT regulations for hazardous materials, and determined the proper classification, labeling, and placarding for their product lines. He has also worked as an expert witness regarding the adequacy of warnings.
ASBESTOS ENVIRONMENTAL EFFECT; ASBESTOS HUMAN HEALTH EFFECT; ANTI-ASBESTOS PERSONAL PROTECTION EQUIPMENT. Expert has assisted building owners in managing their asbestos-containing material. His positions have included project designer, project supervisor (as a building owner's representative), and air quality specialist. He has taught the certification courses for project designer, project supervisor, asbestos worker, and asbestos sampling (NIOSH 582). He also has been an expert witness for asbestos-related cases. Expert can answer in-depth questions regarding asbestos monitoring equipment and asbestos personal protection equipment.
REGULATIONS. Expert taught and provides consulting services for numerous regulations, including 29 CFR (OSHA) Industrial Hygiene-related sections, 49 CFR (DOT) Hazardous Materials Transport (106-180), and 40 CFR (EPA) Hazardous Waste sections (260-299). In addition, he uses ACGIH, ASHRAE, ASTM, and AIHA standards and guidelines to develop his recommendations.
