Hydraulic and Hydrologic Engineering
ID: 713785
Minnesota, USA
Expert has directly developed and supervised the hydraulic design and hydrologic engineering investigations for over 60 projects. Projects have included over 30 local protection flood control projects (levees, floodwalls, river modifications, and pumping plants); 20 rural flood protection channel modification projects; 10 flood control and multi-purpose dams and reservoirs; and 10 flood plain delineation and analysis studies.
A significant portion of Expert's career in water resources has included the area of surface water hydrology and hydrologic engineering. His experience in this area includes: the use of hydrologic models for watershed modeling; surface water runoff hydrographs; flood routing; flood frequency analysis; storm water system analysis and design; storm water pumping and storage design; and flood plain analysis.
Expert has performed hydraulic analysis and developed water surface profiles for numerous natural and modified river channel systems using computer based math models (HEC-2). He has conducted hydraulic analysis and design of artificial channels, levees, floodwalls, and storm drainage systems. He has also performed flood plain encroachment studies.
Expert's work in hydraulic analysis and design has included preliminary analysis and final design of weirs, spillways, chutes, stilling basins, drop structures, erosion control structures, grade control structures, storm water pipe networks, tunnels, dropshafts, pumping stations, water distribution pipe networks, dams, reservoirs, outlet works, bank stabilization, and erosion control facilities.
As a feature of the hydraulic analysis of piping networks, Expert has developed the design of numerous pumping plants. This work encompasses the functional design and development of head-capacity curves, equipment selection for well pumps, water distribution pumps, sanitary sewage lift pumps, and large storm water pumps. Additionally, Expert has done troubleshooting of problems in operating plants.
Expert's navigation system work includes hydraulic analysis and design of river navigation and covers areas such as the development of geometric requirements for navigation channels, dredging requirements, limiting velocities, and bank erosion protection structures. The hydraulic design of lock structures with their filling and emptying systems was an important part of this work.
Expert managed a department of six people responsible for the functional and hydrologic operation of the upper Mississippi River navigation system, including 13 locks and dams and six headwater reservoirs. In this capacity, he operated a large hydro-met network, river gaging network, and river routing model.
Expert attended a workshop to brainstorm and evaluate future markets and business development opportunities in the water resources field. He assisted in the development of Federal form 255 listing capabilities and interest in becoming an A/E contractor. Expert prepared a feasibility report on developing a small navigation lock at an existing dam.
