Human factors and ergonomics professional with more than three decades of experience spanning applied research, consulting, academia, and forensic analysis. Expert’s work centers on the evaluation and design of systems, products, and interfaces to improve safety, usability, performance, and risk outcomes. Areas of specialization include human factors engineering, ergonomics, usability engineering, cognitive engineering, product safety, and human error analysis across complex sociotechnical systems. His background integrates experimental psychology, engineering psychology, and statistics, providing a rigorous scientific foundation for both applied design and forensic evaluation.

Expert has held senior research and scientific roles at the NASA Ames Research Center, where responsibilities included leading and contributing to human factors research involving aerospace systems, cockpit displays, navigation technologies, and operational safety under demanding conditions. This work addressed issues such as workload, situation awareness, interface design, automation, and human–system integration. In parallel, he founded and led a consulting practice focused on applied human factors and ergonomics, delivering usability engineering, risk assessments, and design evaluations for a broad range of industries, including medical devices, pharmaceuticals, transportation, consumer products, and industrial systems.

He has also maintained a long-standing academic appointment as an adjunct professor within industrial engineering and psychology programs, teaching undergraduate and graduate coursework in human factors, ergonomics, usability testing, cognitive engineering, and research methods. Expert has supervised extensive graduate research and contributed to professional education through workshops, invited lectures, and conference leadership. Expert has served in numerous elected and appointed leadership roles within professional societies, including presidency and committee leadership positions, and has been recognized with multiple national and international awards for sustained contributions to the field.

Since 2005, Expert has served as a human factors and ergonomics expert witness, providing litigation support in matters involving product liability, medical devices, consumer products, workplace safety, warnings and instructions, user interface design, and accident causation. His forensic work includes case review, human factors analysis, expert reporting, depositions, and trial testimony.
