Before becoming the Director of the School of Engineering at a Employer in 2010, he was a Distinguished (University) Professor at the Department of Engineering at a different Employer.
Expert received his B.Sc. degree in Mechanical Engineering with emphasis on Metallurgy and Manufacturing Engineering from Bogazici University in 1990. He received his M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in Engineering Management from the University of Missouri-Rolla (UMR) in 1991 and 1993, respectively. He received another Ph.D. in 2002, from the University of Birmingham, United Kingdom, on Metallurgy and Materials. Expert is also Certified as a Quality Engineer (CQE) by the American Society for Quality (ASQ).
Expert worked at the Boeing Company before moving on to academic life in 1995. He founded the Advanced Manufacturing Institute at a Employer whilst teaching there. Later, he served a different university as a University (Distinguished) Professor of manufacturing engineering, where he was recognized for his service-learning activities involving local manufacturers.
Expert started his current position as the Director of School of Engineering at an undisclosed Employer in 2010. Since joining this institution, Expert has collaborated with a city-level Six Sigma Symposium and the local utilities authority to involve engineering students in problem-solving and continuous improvement methods and their applications to help solve issues in non-profit organization in the city.
Expert has authored or co-authored two book chapters and over 100 technical papers and reports. He is the editor of eight books also. His research interests include process design for high-quality castings, optimization and modeling of heat treatment of aluminum alloys, process-structure-property relationships in metals, statistical modeling and quality and reliability improvement methods. He served as a consultant to several companies, including Tyco, Sumitomo, Alcoa, GM, Ford and Chrysler.
Expert’s contributions to manufacturing engineering and metallurgy have been recognized internationally. He was awarded the inaugural John Campbell Medal from the Institute of Cast Metals Engineers in UK in a recent year. Expert has also been selected a Young Leader in Light Metals by TMS and was awarded the Eugene Merchant Outstanding Young Manufacturing Engineer by SME.
Expert has extensive research and consulting experience in the metallurgy, mechanical properties, and heat treatment of aluminum alloys and methods to minimize costs associated with distortion and residual stresses.
Expert, a Certified Quality Engineer, has extensive experience in root cause analysis, problem-solving and solution development for quality improvement in manufacturing industries.
Expert has consulted on failure analysis of a turbine blade that resulted in an airplane crash. Expert has consulted on metallurgical modeling of aluminum heat treatment. Expert has consulted on design analysis for an energy storage unit containing molten aluminum. Expert has consulted on Gage R&R for a manufacturing company.
