Educational Background:
Expert attended City College of the City University New York (CCNY) for his undergraduate studies. He received a Bachelor of Science in Biology – Genetics in 1974. He continued his educational career by completing a Master’s degree at New York University. He graduated with a Master’s of Science degree in Biology – Genetics. After completing his Master’s degree, he attended Fordham University for his Ph.D. in Biology – Genetics. After defending his thesis on Cytological, Cytogenetic, and Biochemical Studies on Insect Cell Lines he graduated with his Ph.D. in 1982. He then pursued postdoctoral research at The Rockefeller University in New York City as a part of the Department of Cell Biology. He then continued as a Research Associate at New York Medical College in Valhalla, New York; he accepted an assistant professorship at Worcester Polytechnic Institute in Worcester, Massachusetts. In 1986, he became an Assistant Professor at Florida International University in Miami, Florida. Expert then became a ’Full Professor at a Medical School within a prestigious international university.
Professional Career:
From 1986 to 2013, Expert taught a variety of courses, wrote multiple successful grants, and supervised his research laboratory of graduate students. He has published over 200 full-length articles in peer-reviewed journals. He has also received various NIH Research Grants for multiple years of funding.
In one of Expert's books, it provides an interdisciplinary approach drawing together data from various diverse disciplines to address both the more classical anthropological content and the current more contemporary molecular focus of courses. His second book, describes the genesis of humans in Africa and the subsequent story of how our species migrated to every corner of the globe. Different phases of this journey are presented in an integrative format with information from a number of disciplines, including population genetics, evolution, anthropology, archaeology, climatology, linguistics, art, music, folklore and history. His third book deals with the technological and sexual interactions between modern humans and ancient Homo sapiens.
Research focus:
During his 45 years in the field of genetics, Expert has a variety of research interests such as: chromatin organization and function structure and function of small nuclear RNA isoforms and middle repetitive elements and their effect on gene regulation and development DNA fingerprinting in humans and strains of silk moth molecular biology phylogeny of AIDS, human evolution, population genetics, legal forensic DNA fingerprinting, as well as detection and characterization of autoimmune diseases. He was also a participant in the diversity aspect of the Human Genome Project.
Currently, Expert is a Visiting Scholar. He continues to publish papers in his areas of interest while also being an "active forensic DNA fingerprinting consultant.’’
