Expert's expertise extends to:
i. Films for industrial, food, agriculture, and general packaging applications as well as specialties, including extended term service life films.
iii. Molecular determinants of creep and crack (ESC, Flex and SCG) failures and its prevention.
iv. Molecular determinants of elastic/flexural rigidity, impact and puncture strength as well as those for sealability and barriers.
v. Composite/multilayer film structures (barrier and not).
Expert specializes in new film development and on improving by reformulating the performance of existing products. He is adept at using tolls like QFD, DFM and TQM to deliver workable solutions. His main focus is in identifying fitness for use requirements, anticipating probable failure modes and taking into account manufacturing conditions to deliver an optimal solution.
He is also quite skilled at specification development and applying following suitable testing methods to evaluate compliance and/or to reverse engineer existing products. Expert compliments his offering with a extensive experience in product performance troubleshooting and analyzing the root causes of substandard performance and failures.
A significant number of Expert's expert engagements are related to improving manufacturing operations of small/mid-small film producers/converters/manufacturers. The most common assignments involve:
i. Rationalization of product recipes for cost/performance optimization by improving machine uptime (reducing changeovers which optimizes runtime and minimizes labor, machine and material waste)
ii. Analysis of production costs and design of manufacturing cost estimating systems and the establishment of performance standards.
Expert's expert knowledge and effective communication skills allow him to act as an expert witness in film related performance issues both in English and/or Spanish.
He is also qualified to perform technical and operational audits in particular those related to technical and operational due diligence proper of M&A activity of flexible packaging and film businesses and/or those related to the evaluation/assessment/installation of new film plant and equipment.
1. Design a structure to provide under weather conditions (outdoors in a 150 Kly.yr zone), constant hydrostatic loads and frequent chemical washes a service life of 6 years. Find, select and qualify vendors.
2. Design a film structure to meet requirements in the Agricultural, Industrial, field
3. Improve machine ( or plant output).
4. Investigate a film performance issue
5. Find and develop structures to run on existing equipment. Typical case: client buys a coextrusion line and needs to find higher value uses for his line.
