1) Formulating new spin dopes suitable for gel spinning
2) Improving the economics of the gel spinning process
3) Improving the strength of wet-spun fibers
4) Heat setting of natural and regenerated fibers
Expert's team's fiber research has been funded by federal agencies (including NSF and National Textile Center), the Georgia State, as well as by various industrial supports.
Expert has published extensively on fiber spinning.
As a university professor, Expert has led research in composites processing and manufacturing for over 15 years. He started his academic career as an assistant professor in 2001.
Specifically, Expert has worked on vacuum infusion, resin transfer molding, thermoforming, and composite injection molding. He has authored or co-authored over 20 technical papers in this area.
Expert has a broad background in polymer processing, with ~200 technical papers in this area. Topics include precision and micro-molding, fiber spinning (melt, solution and gel), composites processing (vacuum infusion), processing of single-polymer composites, additive manufacturing, processing of porous polymers with controllable structures, processing of polymer foams, process modeling and simulation, and plastics recycling.
He has published a number of papers related to polymer processing.
Expert has served as a consultant for more than 10 companies in solving their technical problems in fiber and polymer processing. Particularly in the last year, Expert assisted a fiber processing company in establishing a new fiber spinning line for processing regenerated protein fibers. He also assisted a major composite/textile company in a patent application.
