Fiber-Reinforced Concrete
ID: 108462
Georgia, USA
TEXTILE MATERIAL. Expert has taught courses at Georgia Tech on fiber science, fiber mechanics, textile testing, and mechanics of yarns and fabrics, among others. He has conducted research on the deterioration of synthetic ropes, structural modeling of yarns and ropes, fracture and tear failure of woven fabrics, and responses of nonwoven geotextiles under confinement pressure. Expert has written extensively on the mechanics of fibers and fibrous structures and is an expert on textile testing, instrument testing, and statistical analysis of test results.
YARN MANUFACTURING; FABRIC MANUFACTURING; TEXTILE ENGINEERING. Expert has taught courses at Georgia Tech on yarn and fabric manufacturing processes. He has conducted research on processing dynamics and automation. He has developed computer-aided analysis models to study the effect of machine design parameters on the system performance. Expert has also conducted extensive research on triaxial braiding for making thermoset and thermoplastic composites. He can answer in-depth questions on cotton, nylon, and rayon yarn manufacturing.
FIBER PROCESSING. Having taught and conducted research in the area of fiber science, Expert is also an expert on fiber processing. His recent research projects include work on the recycling of fibrous solid waste as well as the automation and mechanism design for textile processes.
FIBER-REINFORCED COMPOSITE; TEXTILE COMPOSITE. Expert has conducted several research projects on the fabrication, testing, and analysis of textile composites funded by the industry as well as government agencies. His work focuses mainly on preform fabrics including woven, triaxially braided, 3D woven structures; preform manufacturing; composites consolidation by resin transfer molding (RTM), hand lay-up, vacuum bagging, and press molding; mechanical testing including tensile, compression, flexural, shear, and fracture; failure mechanism analysis; and theoretical prediction of the mechanical properties. Expert has published over 25 technical papers in these areas and has organized several symposiums on textile composites in major international conferences. He has taught the courses on composites materials, processing, and manufacturing at Georgia Tech.
TEXTILE SOLID WASTE RECYCLING. Expert has been actively involved with textile waste recycling since 1989. His main interest has been in converting fibrous textile and carpet waste into useful products for construction applications. He has published over 10 papers in these areas, has given several invited presentations, and has co-organized a conference on textile and carpet waste recycling. Expert's work has shown that recycled waste fibers can be useful and effective for concrete and soil reinforcement, and he has worked and is working on full scale construction projects demonstrating the concept. These approaches have the potential for using billions of pounds of the waste materials per year. His work focuses on fiber processing, testing of concrete and soil reinforced with recycled fibers, optimizing the system, and field installation.
