Expert designed surveys to estimate the value of our natural resources. These surveys were designed to elicit the willingness of the public to pay for the protection of natural resources such as wetlands, fisheries, endangered species, and outdoor recreation.
Expert teaches graduate and undergraduate courses in environmental economics and water resource economics and research methods. He provides research services to numerous federal agencies, including the President's Commission on America's Outdoors, the USDA Soil Conservation Service, the US Fish and Wildlife Service, and for the Resource Assessment Commission of the Australian Commonwealth Government. Expert has conducted tests of the reliability and validity of the contingent valuation method. He has compared the economic value of public land forage for wildlife and livestock. He has also studied the bioeconomic effects of timber harvesting on recreational and commercial fishing.
