Expert has applied discrete-event simulation to help increase efficiency in several industries using SIMNET II and ProcessModel. Some of his projects include a simulation model of a BOF (Blast Oxygen Furnace) for a steel mill, a complete process model for a textile firm that increased production by 50%; and an inventory model for a frozen food firm. Some of his work has been presented at professional meetings.

Expert has a long experience applying engineering economics to a large variety of projects. His work includes the economic analysis of a facility for steel pellets manufacturing and the investment appraisal of a photovoltaic cells factory. He has also published a practical guide and a software for investment appraisal. His original research has been published in technical journals and presented at professional meetings.

Expert´s background in Operations Research is particularly solid in the application of Linear Programming to process optimization and business planning. His work inludes the development of (1) an economic model for optimal oil extraction in Mexico, (2) the development of a stock and distribution network for a Mexican food manufacturer, (3)development of a model for the optimal allocation of resources in energy research, (4)development of a model for energy supply in Mexico, (5) development of a model for stocking and distribution of grains.

Other applications of OR include the development of a risk model to ascertain the origin and magnitude of uncertainty in the event of a severe accident at Laguna Verde nuclear plant (Mexico), and the optimisation of a process for the solvent fractionation of palm oil.

Part of his work has also been published and/or presented at professional meetings.

Expert has considerable experience in training programmes for large industrial concerns such as IBM and Bayer, the Mexican electric utility (CFE), PEMEX and others. For many years he has been working on cooperation programmes between Mexican universities and industrial corporations that has resulted in very successful joint projects, such as training programmes, internships, applied research and chairs.
