Expert is a consultant and management expert in the utilities, energy, engineering and automation sectors. He has managed large national and international organizations (utilities, energy service and engineering companies and divisions) in Europe and Asia and has developed and delivered major projects for industrial, utility, commercial and government clients in the areas of fossil, renewable and alternative (distributed) power generation, (power) transmission and distribution, district energies (heating, cooling), industrial electrification, automation, contract maintenance and asset management, industrial energy efficiency and carbon footprint mitigation. He has led or participated in numerous acquisitions of companies or assets and has led new market entry efforts in China, India and SE Asia. He is further an expert in utility and engineering operations, including Lean Engineering and Manufacturing, Total Quality Management and Six Sigma (black belt) and Total Productive Maintenance. His current interests are i) in the market-driven transformation of the electric power system through distributed, renewable generation and storage, transmission "superhighways" and smart grid technology and services and ii) industrial (heavy energy users) and transport energy efficiency (electric vehicle infrastructure and management) and carbon footprint mitigation. His consulting assignments are mainly geared towards development of viable business models and winning strategies, assistance in strategy execution (including alliance building) and the building of high performance organizations and energy efficient processes and supply chains. Clients include technology and service providers, utilities, engineering and industrial companies and government bodies.

Expert has considerable experience in designing and delivering large energy efficiency /CO2 mitigation projects for both utility and industrial environments, including i) power: demand side management, demand response and load management and ii) energy performance contracting for industrial and complex facilities (hospitals, data centers and server farms, campuses, large shopping malls): on-site power generation, fuel switching (biomass) and waste-2-energy, energy management systems, energy efficiency industrial process retrofits (paper, steel, cement etc). He has also led projects to aggregate industrial loads for participation in capacity markets (balancing energy, demand response) and to integrate renewable generation into power markets. Through his participation in industrial associations and advisory groups he has provided analysis and advice to different levels of government on power and CO2 market design

Expert experience in biomass and waste-2-energy comes from having built one of the large biomass / waste-2-energy / special gases businesses in Germany with over 30 plants of varying sizes (exceeding 200 MWe in total) including fresh and waste wood biomass, biogas from energy crops and agricultural and waste residue (anaerobic digestion, including processing of biogas into natural gas quality - biomethane), mine gas, landfill gas, refuse derived fuel (RDF) and others - either as stand-alone units or elements in larger energy systems (CHP with heat or steam production, district heating / cooling systems etc) in industrial or municipal environments. He is an expert in the strategic development and sustainable positioning of renewable generation and service businesses, including feedstock supply chains and contracting, EPC contracting, operations and risk management and financial structuring. He was also one of the first initiators in Germany of projects to integrate biomass based generators into virtual power plants to support and augment intermittent renewable generation (wind, solar) and to integrate renewable generation into capacity markets (balancing energy) and demand-driven load management systems

As an ex-CEO and board member of utility companies, Expert has significant expertise in utility (power T&D, gas, district heating) concession contracts at the minicipal and state level and has consulted with municipalities and state governments on public-private-partnership (PPP) program design for electric vehicle infrastructure depoyment.

Expert has both line management and consulting expertise in lean management and performance optimization for utility (generation, transmission & distribution), engineering and heavy manufacturing operations and supply chains. He has led projects for drastic cycle time reductions and quality improvements through standardization, modularization and industrial process re-engineering in the delivery of large power plants and six sigma projects in engineering / manufacturing of power transformers, industrial turbines, MV switchgear, power plant operations and network operations and maintenance.
As a contractor (outsourced contract industrial maintenance) and/or operations consultant he has implemented Total Productive Maintenance projects (incl. risk based and reliability centered maintenance), in power generation and process industry environments, including petrochemical plants, steel mills and pulp & paper mills.
He has further managed a large international project in supply chain and distribution optimization of spare parts and technical field service operations and advised clients in the design of after sales and field service operations
