Expert has conducted practical research at NASA's Glenn Research Center; Fermi National Laboratory; and Argonne National Laboratory. He is past Editor-in-Chief of Thermodynamics of Entropy Journal. He has been Editorial Board member of Transactions of AcademEnergo and of Entropy journal. In the past, Expert has been appointed to serve on the National Science Foundation (NSF)’s Nanoscale Interdisciplinary Research Team (NIRT) Review Panel. He was also appointed to the International Scientific Advisory Board for the UNESCO sponsored 4th to 9th Conference on Sustainable Development of Energy, Water and Environment Systems. Expert has served as Faculty Research Participant with the Argonne National Laboratory (2004, 2005). He has served also as Fermilab Guest Scientist with the Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory.
