Accredited Energy Assessor to issue Display Energy Certificate (DEC) for government and public buildings, Accredited Energy Assessor to inspect Complex Central Air Conditioning Systems (Air conditioning Inspector) and researching into why buildings consume more energy than design predictions.
He has carried out building energy performance assessment and analysis for Dudley Group of Hospitals (Russell’s Hall Hospital), University College London Hospital (NHS Trust), Taberner House (Croydon Council), Ministry of Defence sites (Over ten sites), Foreign and Commonwealth Offices (FCO), Lambeth Council, Brent Council and many more.
He modernised Wandsworth Council, London CHP system to reduce operational failures to increase investment returns. When he was operating in Ghana, the Department of Urban Roads Ghana approahed him with traffic lights failure problems. He desiged a standby system to power traffic lights in the event of power failures. The problem was that the power supply from the grid in Ghana has been very poor over twenty years ago.
Most of the time power failures cause traffic mess in the cities and he designed a very simple but effective system to eliminate or reduce this problem.
When the grid power was on, a bank of storage batteries were charged by inverter / charger and energy stored in the battery bank was used to power the lights.
When the grid power fails, the DC power from the batteries are converted to AC power by the inverter and supply to the lights. The change over is so swift that the lights do not go off. The system was very successful but due to high cost of inerter /charger and storage batteries at the time only few could be installed. Again the power consumption per lamp was also high, demanding large size inverter / charger and storage batteries.
Now that light emitting diode (LED) traffic lamps are available with low power consumption, the project will be revisited to install more units
As part of providing energy consultancy services for Brent Council, carried out an investigation and research into some buildings for voltage fluctuations. The aim was to reduce voltage fluctuations, stabilise the voltage, regulate the operational voltage band i.e. set maximum and minimum limits to reduce energy consumption and increase equipment life.
The building voltage analysis was carried out using a simple device with astonishing result which was presented to the head of property department, demonstrating the current trend and what could be saved for installation voltage reduction equipment.
The proposal was accepted and the equipment installed with amazing result in energy consumption reduction.
He initiated an energy efficiency programme to reduce energy consumption in Vale Farm Leisure Centre in London which was managed by Brent Council. Three projects were proposed to deal with the rise of energy consumption at the site. The whole three projects were implemented.
The first project was to installed pool covers on the swimming pools to reduce heat loss during unoccupied hours, reduce water evaporation, reduce air ventilation duty and many more.
The second and third projects were pool temperaure control using automatic device and installing space humidity sensor to measure the level of humidity in the space to modulate fresh air supply using variable speed drive to regulate fan speed to match demand. The project won an award for its outstanding energy savings.
