He served as an air ambulance (HEMS) doctor for 11 years and was actively involved with the ambulance service for 15 years as a volunteer doctor and advisor. He has served on government advisory bodies on emergency planning and disaster management and more recently as an advisor to the Ministry of Defense on the medical implications of less-lethal weapons.
