Expert has over 30 years of extensive hands-on experience in electro-optic hardware development and systems engineering. His major area of concentration is free-space laser communications, laser radar, laser ranging, laser remote sensing, laser beam acquisition, tracking, and pointing. He pioneered the early development of diode-pumped solid state laser advancing the state of the art in this field. He is also
experienced with fiberoptic systems including transmitters and receivers, fiber lasers, and particularly flight qualification and reliability of lasers and electro-optic system for use in spacecarft. He is the author of two books on laser communications, published over 160 papers, and a Fellow of the SPIE society.
Free-space laser communication is one of Expert's primary fields of research in recent years. He has designed a variety of systems for very long distance optical (laser) communication through space.
Expert has extensive experience in applications of infrared detectors (1-4mm) and CCD (0.2-2mm) detection. He is knowledgeable of a variety of infrared detectors, including the construction, testing, and application. The wavelengths range from 1 micron to several millimeters.
Expert has been involved in the construction of a number of different fiber-optic sensors and fiberoptic imaging and display systems.
Expert has thorough familiarity with all types of semiconductor lasers including single frequency and diode-laser-arrays. He is also adept with fiber pigtailing, operation, modulation, testing, and a variety of laser applications. His current focus of research involves frequency doubling of diode lasers and applications for pumping solid-state lasers.
Expert has experience with design and construction of a variety of solid-state lasers. He is particularly interested in diode-pumped solid-state lasers, both end-pumped and side-pumped.
Expert has designed a variety of optical systems for diverse applications and capable of ray-tracing and performance prediction and evaluation. He has designed optical systems for harsh environments and spaceborne applications.
Expert has designed a variety of electro-optical systems including both electronic drivers as well as the custom design of electro-optical instruments. He is thoroughly familiar with the construction of opto-electronic components.
Laser communications for long range telecommunicationsis a major area of concentration f who has written two books on this field.
Currently consulting with a major developer of Integarted Optic modules (in West Los Angeles area) by perfoming optical design.Currently consulting with a developer of deep ultra-violet laser manufacturer (in Covina California) by designing miniature diode-pumped solid-state lasers. For a company in Valencia, California, developed ultraviolet diode-pumped laser systems (under contract to his small company: Lasers1, Inc.) to replace the costly lasers that were being manufactured for the customer's line of 3D SLM rapid prototyping instruments.Over nearly 13 years, for a fiberoptic telecom company in West Hills California, developed fiberoptic packages to add to their line of fiberoptic transmitters, designed semiconductor optical amplifiers, and laser communications systems for building-to-building communications. For a a period of about 12 years, for a laser remote sensing company in New Mexico designed and developed a variety of electro-optic systems, and unique laser systems.
