Responsibilities:Perform arc-flash hazard studies, including short circuit and coordination studies per the requirements set forth in NFPA 70E for industrial clients at a full service multi-discipline engineering & design firm. Expert prepares time-current coordination curves to determine the required settings of all protective devices to maximize selectivity. After formal completion of the power system study, produce a narrative, written final report summarizing results, conclusions, and recommendations for arc flash energy reduction and identifying circuit protective devices improperly rated for the calculated available fault current. Many projects required Expert to apply recommended practices in consensus standards such as NFPA 499, 497 & NFPA 30 to develop or update hazardous area electrical classification maps of operating units, process plants, and buildings. Expert sizes, selects and specifies instrumentation such as flow, level, pressure, temperature and control valves for application in these potentially hazardous environments, utilizing either explosion proof or intrinsically safe methods. Expert is required to verify intrinsic safety calculations when interfacing into these hazardous areas, for presentation to the client’s systems safety committee for design approval. As a licensed professional engineer he signs, seals and dates electrical drawings, plans and specifications for submittals to municipal building authorities for permit reviews and approvals. In most jurisdictions, Expert must develop compliance certifications to demonstrate commercial project interior/exterior lighting conformance with energy provisions of the Alabama Energy and Residential Code. He also mentors junior-level engineering and CAD design staff. |

Responsibilities:Developed performance specifications and contract requirements for acquisition of industrial electronic plant equipment used in the overhaul and quality assurance testing of wheeled and tracked Army combat vehicles at a federal government maintenance depot. As a capital projects engineer, also reviewed and evaluated contractor proposals, performed contracting officer's representative (COR) duties, coordinated equipment installation, and conducted final acceptance to ensure that the equipment or services provided met all contract scope of work requirements. Prepared cost estimates and executed engineering economic analyses for justification of these annual capital improvement project design and development expenditures; also provided day-to-day engineering leadership and guidance to assist maintenance team members identify, investigate, analyze and troubleshoot electrical/electronic issues to meet production deadlines. Advised and provided technical consultation to other engineers, facilities and production personnel responsible for equipment modernization projects, such as upgrade of existing equipment, design and fabrication of test fixtures and test benches to improve production processes or replace outdated equipment.Performed engineering studies for expansion or rearrangement of existing shops, including identifying any new facility projects required. Collaborated with other engineering disciplines such as mechanical, hydraulic, materials and environmental to reduce operational costs, improve reliability, and decrease overhaul times. Researched applicable NFPA /IEEE standards and OSHA regulations, and coordinated recommendations on issues of electrical safety for the facility. Reviewed and verified technical records of performance and reliability of equipment, and interpreted regulations and directives for such military projects. Established and wrote technical maintenance and calibration procedures for engine dynamometer test cells, transmission test cells, electro-optical test benches and hydraulic test stands. |
