METALS PROCESSING; CERAMICS PROCESSING; PLASTICS PROCESSING. Expert is familiar with different areas of designing and producing materials with different processing methods. Some examples include upsetting, extrusion, forging, sheet stamping, powders, powder injection, molding, polymer injection molding, and others.
MATERIALS TESTING; COMPUTER-AIDED MANUFACTURING. Expert's computer-aided materials processing laboratory is equipped with two Instron testing machines, Battenfeld injection molding machine, an MTS model 866.02 metal formability testing system, and many computer systems. He is well-equipped to conduct many types of mechanical testing and materials processing.
MATERIALS SCIENCE MODELING; PROCESS MODELING AND ANALYSIS. Expert is capable of developing models for materials processing. He and his students are also involved in developing different computer software systems for design and manufacturing processes.
SURFACE ANALYSIS; DEFORMATION MODELING. Expert has developed a video-based computer system that enables the analysis of surface strains in deformed materials and sheets. He has done some work with a laser scanning non-contact coordinate measuring machine.
SMALL BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT. In 1989, Expert helped to start a small business at an incubator center at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY. The company, CamSys, Inc., is in the area of video-based surface measurement systems. CamSys currently has more than 60 customers around the world. Based on this experience, Expert can give advice on establishing an incubator center at educational institutions; starting and running a small high-tech business; and marketing and developing a niche market.
