Request Expert

Expert worked in the United States Antarctic Program developing cryogenic management plans, purchasing cryogenic fluids, transporting, producing, and storing cryogenic fluids. His expertise is primarily with liquid helium and liquid nitrogen but does extend to liquid oxygen as well. He has worked on various cryogenic coldhead systems including basic GM, Sterling cycle, and turbine expanders for producing small scale amounts (<25L/Hr) of liquid nitrogen as well as pulse tube technology designed to reliquify cold helium gas in helium dewars.

His work includes the use of standard dewars as well as cryorefrigerators and dry shippers. He has conducted investigations into failure modes for dewars and dry shippers. His work involves the complex logistics of shipping cryogenic product and samples across the United States but also across international borders, including New Zealand, South America, Australia, Hong Kong, and Singapore.

Expert has worked on ultra-high vacuum (UHV) systems to include maintaining the annular space of dewars and using vacuum systems to remove contaminating gases from helium systems. This work revolves around the use of oil-less vacuum pumps to maintain the integrity of superinsulations used by many manufacturers.

Expert has consulted to Columbia Scientific Balloon Facility regard current inventory of cryogenic dewars, shipping of liquid helium globally, and strategies for successful conservation of liquid helium.
