He is a member of the CEN and BSI toy safety committees. He is an active participant in this work and closely involved in the drafting of toy standards for the UK and Europe. Expert is also the Principal UK expert on the ISO toys safety committee - TC 181. He is highly respected in this field and commonly consulted by EU toy companies both large and small. His understanding of the subject and ability to explain it concisely has led to his giving expert witness in many UK court cases with an almost unblemished record of success for his clients.
He started his career in the commercial sector with Nestlé after gaining a degree in Chemistry from the University of Newcastle upon Tyne. In 1982 he left Nestlé to join the Laboratory of the Government Chemist at the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), where he stayed for three years. After leaving the DTI, Expert qualified as a Public Analyst and was appointed to a number of UK Local Authorities. He was a founding Partner of Central Scientific Laboratories in London.
In January 2003 Expert founded Expert Associates, a business consultancy advising companies on a wide range of Consumer Product Compliance Issues.
Expert is a member of several professional bodies including the Royal Society of Chemistry, the Institute of the Food Science and Technology and the Association of Public Analysts.
Expert is consulted by many mainstream EU toy companies. He advises on product design, testing and compliance.
