Construction Management--Industrial and Commercial Construction
ID: 725459
North Carolina, USA
He has had extensive experience in management functions throughout his career with an initial step being project management of large industrial projects with up to 2500 employees. Division and company management with numerous reporting managers, division managers and staff that were charged with leading and attaining the vision and achieving the results of the business plan.
Expert has been in the construction industry since graduating from the University of Kentucky in 1967. Working through the details of project management and division, group and company management for both regional and national/international construction companies has provided opportunities to experience many business environments. Initially his career included intense self perform projects moving more recently to extensively subcontracted projects. He has dealt with the contract negotiations and dispute resolutions that are necessary in the construction business. Risk Management and Control are key ingredients to success in construction, and he has worked with industry professionals in developing programs to address this subject.
Expert has long been a proponent of the value of planning and early in his career was the corporate Scheduling Engineer for J.A. Jones Construction Company. This along with practical field experience provided a background for the emphasis of planning as a success tool. An intensive Project Execution Plan program was created by Expert for his Energy Division and it later became the model for the entire company. As a company president Expert sees the difference between planned projects and those that do not have the intensity of a pre-construction plan.
Having worked in field management and understanding the huge amount of data that must be managed and kept current in project management, Expert has moved his current company along a path to implement a comprehensive project management program that incorporates the basic details of cost, schedule, correspondence, logs, emails, changes, and contracts. Over the years Expert has found that the real success in project management is the proper and timely communication of information such that action can be taken as soon as possible and the quality of that information is key.
Expert joined John S. Clark Company LLC as it's Chief Marketing Officer with the task of moving the company from it's past as a builder of negotiated design/build manufacturing projects with a mixture of retail and various commercial projects to a broader mix of project types and sizes. The manufacturing industry was dramatically contracting and the company needed to move into new areas and focus on growing market segments.
Looking at the company strengths and experiences a strategic plan to improve the internal business systems and to broaden the expertise and geographic range of interests was developed. He created a vision that would guide the company through this period and would endure to cause the company to excel in its future operations even if the strategic directions changed.
At an earlier time Expert was involved in creating a new division within a Jones subsidiary that grew to be one of the largest builders of gas fired power plants in the US by the end of the 90's.
