Compressor Design and Evaluation
ID: 719625
Kentucky, USA
Familiar with compressor materials and lubrication processes, Expert has also conducted room air conditioning and refrigerator reliability testing. He has evaluated HFC refrigerants with POE, alkylbenzene, PAG, ether, polycarbonate, and modified mineral oil lubricants.
In his study of compressor noise, Expert has developed a mechanical signature analysis technique useful for finding root cause and location of noise sources. He has developed compressor designs to eliminate or reduce pure t
Expert has developed an 11.0 energy efficiency ratio (EER) rotary compressor. He has written a treatise on rotary compressor efficiency and identification and quantification of rotary compressor losses. He understands the trade-offs and interrelationships between performance, noise, manufacturability, and cost. He is experienced with loss identification involving mechanical, electrical, isentropic, and flow aspects of compressor performance. Expert developed vane and roller microfinishing processes for improved efficiency and reliability. He also developed mechanical design configurations optimized for maximum pump efficiency. Expert has authored a rotary compressor design handbook that addresses all aspects of rotary compressor technology, including design, materials and lubricant selection, performance and reliability testing, manufacturability, and cost.
Expert has over 30 years' experience designing, evaluating, and developing rotary compressors used in room air conditioning and heat pump systems. He has written detailed compressor application criteria for these systems and understands the application requirements for good reliability.
Over the course of his career, Expert has designed rotary compressors for air conditioning and refrigeration applications ranging in size from 600 BTUs/hour to 36,000 BTUs/hour. He has extensive experience with compressor materials, refrigerants, and lubricants (including solid film). He developed high-efficiency compressors with little noise and low cost. Expert authored a rotary compressor design guide and developed an analytical model of roller dynamics to evaluate current and new designs for reliability and performance.
Expert led and actively participated in rotary compressor design reviews for General Electric and other major compressor and product manufacturers. He has reviewed designs involving bearing load calculations, materials assessments, lubrication analyses, and reliability and performance estimates.
Expert has developed unique bearing configurations and materials, including PVD coating applied to the rotary compressor vane nose for specific applications with HFC refrigerants and miscible lubricants such as polyolesters and others. He has developed microfinishing technology as applied to rotary compressor vanes an
He developed the entire compressor A/C product line for Samsung Electronics. 13 years as a consultant. He developed the world's smallest and most reliable rotary compressor for personal and electronics cooling. Compressor manufactured in Kentucky.
6 years as a consultantHe has consulted on many subjects related to compressors and HVAC/R products.
He has consulted with Copeland Engineering and most all compressor manufacturers.
