CHEMICAL REACTION ENGINEERING. Expert has worked extensively in various areas of chemical reaction engineering such as the analysis and design of reactors and applied kinetics, including kinetic experiments and kinetic modeling. This work includes heterogeneous catalytic reactions. He teaches courses in chemical reaction engineering and applied chemical kinetics.
COAL COMBUSTION; COAL GASIFICATION. Expert has been working in various problems of coal science and technology, including coal pyrolysis, coal combustion, coal gasification, and desulfurization of coal gas. He has written a monograph on coal pyrolysis.
INORGANIC MEMBRANE; GAS SEPARATION. The preparation of inorganic membranes for gas separations at high temperatures is a major research area f. He has developed gas phase (chemical vapor deposition) and liquid phase techniques for membrane preparation. He has been studying membrane applications to petrochemical processes and coal conversion. Expert was the first to prepare silica membranes with very high selectivity for hydrogen separation. He has two patents and one approved patent application in this area.
APPLIED MATHEMATICS. Expert has worked in several areas of applied mathematics, including differential equations, linear algebra, and real and complex variables. He has written a monograph on the differential equations of chemical reactors. He is an expert in the differential equations governing reaction and diffusion in porous materials.
