TECHNOLOGY TRANSFER. Expert has extensive experience in all aspects of technology transfer. The functions he has been involved with include idea generation, technology search, evaluation, product development, market development, licensing, and negotiation. The process involves concurrent, or team efforts, and Expert's experience in all of these areas can provide for the efficient accomplishment of objectives. He has been a major contributor to the development and implementation of a stage-gate process for the development of ideas into commercial products. Expert has established a considerable technology network that encompasses universities, federal laboratories, and industrial organizations in the areas of pharmaceutical, petroleum, chemical, and related industries. He currently searches for technology for clients on an annual retainer basis.
TECHNOLOGY DEVELOPMENT; TECHNOLOGY SEARCH. Searching for new technology is a part of Expert's business development service. This activity has both defensive and diversification goals. The sources accessed for new technology include universities, government laboratories, and other industrial companies. Expert is retained by clients to search for technologies of interest.
TECHNICAL MARKETING. A significant portion of Expert's new product and business development efforts involve evaluating opportunities for their technical and business potential. This requires the assessment of the market potential, identification of the key players, the future growth of the business, economic attractiveness, and the technical factors that could make the effort successful. Expert has evaluated and negotiated terms for acquisition opportunities. Market expertise includes fine and specialty chemicals, petroleum and polymer additives, and bromine chemicals.
NEW PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT. Expert has become an expert in the stage-gate system for the development of ideas into commercial products. The state-gate approach organizes the total new product process into a series of stages and requires established criteria to be met at gates before work in the next stage can begin. This project management system allows for the efficient development of ideas and maximizes the return on research and development. Expert has worked with other experts in this area and has organized stage/gate symposia.
CHEMICAL INDUSTRY. Expert has a unique understanding of the chemical industry from both the technical and business sides. His industry experience has been on the interface between the R&D department and the business group. These activities formed the basis of a course he taught as an adjunct professor at Louisiana State University. Expert's understanding of the chemical industry is useful for technology assessment, strategic planning, and competitive analysis. He has established an extensive network of contacts that has proved useful in locating technology and in reaching the appropriate individual in a company.
