Expert Details
Chemical Process Industries, Waste Water and Air Pollution Control
ID: 723758
New York, USA
He has applied his expertise in the alternative technologies selection for process economics by his recent evaluation for drying of an organic superabsorbant product. The technology developed by the product developer was the use of methanol solvent in copious amounts resulting in expensive distillation for solvent recovery. The expert proposed simple and economic freeze drying technology.
Expert is committed to the application of Chemical Engineering principles for promoting environmental conservation; one project executed by the expert was the substitution of waste organics for natural gas or fuel oil for the incineration of toxic vents, benefiting the environment by way of harmless waste remediation and less energy use causing greenhouse gases.
His expertise in the process design area is multi-disciplined. He has been the project leader for a number of successful (on-budget, on-schedule) projects complete with raw materials/products storage, utilities, process units and waste treatment. He has prepared several process design packages including detailed process flow diagrams, piping & instrument flow diagrams, equipment design/specifications & procurement; and handled variety of processes ranging from fine chemicals/pharmaceuticals to highly toxic materials namely phosgene and pyrophoric organomettalics. His varied equipment & vendor experience includes reactors, pumps, distillation columns, incinerators, thermal fluid heaters, storage tanks & filters.
He has experience in another important aspect of process design, i.e. materials of construction, that includes various grades of stainless steel, tantalum lined columns, fired heaters, plastic lined and FRP equipment and piping.
In the area of waste treatment, expert has applied non-conventional process design solutions; one successful application was the treatment of equipment washing wastewater generated from a multi-colored ink processing operation. The treated waste discharge criteria were a very stringent requirement of a biological leaching bed on the bank of a river in Connecticut. The conventional design of primary treatment followed by biological and adsorption were not applicable to meet the near zero heavy metals concentration suitable for discharge to a public water body. The expert designed an evaporator with a packed column and condenser; the resulting water quality was successfully implemented for discharge to public water body.
Process development, System design and Equipment selection for a Super Absoarbant Agricultural Product.
The process required unique solids handling equipment and a large solvent recovery system making the product uneconomical.
He proposed a very unique and cost effective process alternative involving freeze drying of moisture. He was responsible for system design, equipment procurement, contractor supervision for installation and successful start-up of an Organic Ester Retrofit Project.
